Catherine A Picken, MD
Dr. Picken has lived and worked in Washington DC for over 30 years. She graduated summa cum laude from Knox College in Galesburg Illinois, and then graduated from Northwestern University Medical School. She completed her internship and two years of residency in General Surgery at Northwestern before becoming a clinical surgical fellow at the NIH National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. After selecting Head and Neck Surgery as her career choice, she completed four more years of residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center.
During her early career, she served as Chief, Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Washington, DC for four years before joining the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery at Georgetown full time. She was with Georgetown University for over 10 years prior to entering private practice. Dr. Picken received numerous awards while at Georgetown, including teaching awards, a Special Citation for Clinical Excellence, and recognition in the hospital’s Gallery of Service Excellence every year since it was instituted. She has been cited in Washingtonian magazine’s “Top Doctors” in every edition since 1996, Who’s Who, Best Doctors in America, Checkbook Magazine, and in the new “Super Doctors of Washington DC” published in the Washington Post. She has served on the Board of Directors of Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr Picken has gained recognition in the community for her experience and expertise in nasal and sinus problems including polyps, tumors and complex revision sinus procedures; evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders; and management and surgery of head and neck tumors including salivary gland tumors, thyroid and parathyroid tumors, cervical lymph node tumors, and oral and throat and voicebox tumors. She is an excellent resource for second opinions and ENT wellness advice.
Dr. Musy
Dr Musy grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City, leaving in 1985 to attend the University of Florida. While an undergraduate, he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated with high honors in 1989, and spent a year after graduation doing research in the Department of Pediatrics. He then entered into the MD/PhD program at the University of Florida, and completed his studies in 1998. He was inducted into Alpha Omicron Alpha medical honor society for academic and clinical excellence. His PhD focused on the molecular mechanisms of poxviral pathogenesis.
He then did an internship in general surgery at the University of Virginia, and subsequently completed residency in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, also at the University of Virginia. Following residency, he practiced ENT in private practice in Bozeman, Montana for 6 years. He made the move back to the East Coast in 2010, and joined the Washington ENT Group in July 2010.
Dr Musy is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and is board certified in otolaryngology. He is affiliated with Georgetown University Hospital and Sibley Memorial Hospital, and practices surgical and medical management of a variety of ear, nose, and throat problems. He has a particular interest in sinonasal problems, and cares for both adult and pediatric patients.
