Staff Bios
Catherine Picken, M.D.
Although a native of Illinois, Dr. Picken has lived and worked in Washington for over 20 years. She graduated summa cum laude from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and then graduated from Northwestern University Medical School. She completed her internship and two years of residency in General Surgery at Northwestern before coming to Washington as a clinical fellow at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Surgical Branch. After selecting Head and Neck Surgery as her career choice, she completed four years of residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown University Medical Center. During her early career, she served as the Chief, Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Washington for four years before joining the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Georgetown full-time. She was with Georgetown University for over ten years prior to entering private practice. Dr. Picken received numerous awards while at Georgetown, including teaching awards, a Special Citation for Clinical Excellence, and recognition in the hospital's Gallery of Service Excellence every year since it was instituted. She has been cited in Washingtonian magazine's "Top Doctors", Who's Who, and Best Doctor's in America. Currently, she serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Picken has gained recognition in the community for her experience and expertise in nasal and sinus problems including polyps, tumors and complex revision procedures; evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders; and head and neck tumors including benign and malignant disorders of the salivary glands, thyroid and parathyroid glands, neck, mouth, throat and voicebox. Dr. Kristen Seidel, Au.D. earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida. She completed her undergraduate degree at Penn State University where she spent a semester studying abroad and traveling Europe. Her clinical experiences in the Gainesville, FL and Washington, DC communities have prepared her to diagnose, manage and treat hearing and balance disorders. She accomplishes this through audiologic and vestibular diagnostic test batteries, auditory evoked potentials, hearing aids and cochlear implants. One of her most rewarding experiences as an audiology student was her involvement in humanitarian trips to Yucatan, Mexico where she was able to provide hearing healthcare to remote communities. Originally from Fairport, NY (a suburb of Rochester) she loves living in Washington, DC. Kristen enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, baking, and cheering on the Penn State Nittany Lions. David Crowley is currently a candidate for his Doctorate of Audiology, Au.D. through Gallaudet University. Gallaudet has one of the top audiology programs in the country according to U.S. News & World Report and is located here in Washington, D.C. David joined DC Audiology as part of Au.D. curriculum: the fourth year externship. The fourth year externship is the culmination of three years of graduate work, clinical experience, and research. He is looking forward to fulfilling his quality education at an outstanding facility. David began his career at the University of Central Florida where he learned American Sign Language and became interested in the study of hearing loss. There he received his Bachelor of Arts in communicative disorders and a Certificate in American Sign Language. David grew up in Florida and has lived in Washington, D.C. since 2006.
